Trust – The keystone of Leadership

Is Trust on your Leadership Agenda? Research shows that the experiences of many employees before and during the recession have led to a fall in trust for both organisations and their leaders. This is not to say that employees are merely resentful of leadership actions – many understand the business context and the tough decisions that have to be made but feel they are not respected in the way these decisions are delivered. Whilst employers may feel they own the labour market at the moment the erosion of trust and feelings of uncertainty have an impact on a company’s ability to weather the business storm. A lack of trust reduces the company’s capability to solve problems/work collectively and share information openly, the very traits it needs to demonstrate to gain a competitive advantage in tough times and retain talent for times of growth.

How to Manage Conflict Positively

When leaders talk of conflict they usually position it in negative terms with the goal being to minimise the repercussions rather than manage the process. Unless autocratic leaders or aggressive individuals always make the best decisions then this has to be viewed as a mistake. Respectful conflict management can lead to better decisions that have the engagement of all parties and be a route to better relationships and broader modes of thinking.

Direct Labour Leadership Case Study

It is clear from the Property Care experience that many companies can increase their productivity through improving their culture through leadership and harness the skills and talents of their people. By initiating change to improve both leaderships skills and employee engagement companies can focus on spending time on the right things beyond their daily problems and make decisions that position themselves better for the future rather than just reacting to external pressures.

By ensuring all areas of the business are aware of performance both operationally and personally a clear approach to development and change can be undertaken. Key drivers are a broad understanding of the business challenges and a vision for how they will be met. In many cases utilising the nascent talents through a more focused approach will ensure the organisations energy is aimed in the right direction.

Orginspire and The Great Training Company work with organisations to help them get the best from their people at all levels. We aim to understand your business and your people to craft solutions that work for you and are sustainable for the future. We are proud of the work we do and aim to provide a legacy of knowledge that adds value in the long term.
