No matter what our role in the organisation the ability to share our ideas and participate in the decision making process will be dependent on our personal communication skills. Whilst we communicate all the time many people are unaware of the impact their approach has on others and how to flex their approach to different situations.

This course will enable delegates to review aspects of their own style / approach and use this knowledge to assess the approaches of others to build rapport and create a basis for shared dialogue.

By using self assessment tools and practical activities delegates will be able to extend their understanding of how to get their message across in a productive and respectful way and build confidence in dealing with others.

Understanding the role of the communicator in ensuring the right messages get across and its effect on business and interpersonal relationships.

Why people don’t listen or receive the message in the way it was intended and the importance of cognitive bias.

  • Confidence and Stress

Understanding our own mental blocks and how these can be overcome through repositioning our thinking.

  • Positioning ideas and concepts.

Identifying our own preferred communication approach and how it can help and hinder when dealing with others. How to recognise the approach of others to effectively position the message including a self analysis tool.

  • Building rapport.

The importance of rapport and how to build it through the use of verbal and non verbal expression.

  • Listening and Questioning skills.

How to listen effectively and use questions to gain further incite into thoughts and feelings

  • Communicating goals and objectives.

How to present and extract information to ensure the message is complete and coherent.

  • Providing constructive criticism

How to deliver criticism that focus’s on the behaviour and result whilst maintaining a positive relationship.

  • Dealing with difficult situations.

Key tips for dealing with difficult situations through work shopping real and potential situations. For example dealing with aggression and saying no including a self analysis tool.

  • Action planning and practical first steps

 

Training Approach

This course is typically run over 1 day for up to 10 delegates. The course will include elements of both individual reflection and group work ensuring the full participation of participants. The training presentation will include personal analysis tools and video presentations to illustrate and develop themes as well as practical learning activities.

All delegates will receive a copy of the training presentation / handouts and articles for further reading.

Each delegate will also receive a 30 minute post course telephone coaching session to develop and clarify themes as well as providing practical application
